UAE Civil Defence Requirements for Diesel Storage

Storing diesel on industrial premises in the UAE requires Civil Defence approval. The exact requirements vary by emirate but generally include bunded containment, ventilation, fire protection and signage.

Tank Specifications

• Bunded: Secondary containment of at least 110% of tank capacity.
• Material: Steel (single or double-wall) with anti-corrosion coating.
• Vents: Properly sized breather vents with flame arrestors.
• Fittings: Lockable fill point, level gauge, overfill alarm.
• Earthing: Grounded to dissipate static electricity.

Site Layout Requirements

• Minimum distance from buildings, boundaries and ignition sources.
• Fire extinguishers and sand buckets within reach.
• Spill containment kit nearby.
• Clear "No Smoking" and "Flammable" signage.

Inspection & Maintenance

1. Visual inspection daily for leaks, corrosion or damage.
2. Water check monthly — drain water from tank bottom.
3. Annual tank integrity inspection by a certified inspector.
4. Periodic fuel quality testing for long-stored diesel.
